Models Own It - Lipstick

Well what can I say? I love Models Own (It?) nail polishes but haven't tried any other their other products. Their 50% of Facebook sale was too good to pass up (and what a fab PR exercise on their part!!), especially as I want a bright red lipstick for Halloween and saw fab looking one on their site...

Overall, it was a bit of a faff trying to order from the ever crashing site, but hey what do you expect with these things? For 50% off I thought it was worth the effort. My order arrived quickly and although one items was out of stock then rest (mainly nail polish) was all perfect!

I'm not a big lipstick lover. I love the look of nudes and MAC lipstick shades but recently I've realised it seems to give me a bit of a rash.

First up the lipsticks are usually £5 each. The packaging look nice enough - fairly basic and simple really. I am a little worried about how them will stand up to be smoushed (am I making this up?) with lipstick and chucked in my bag but we'll see...

Red Scarlett looks very vibrant online and I wasn't disappointed in the flesh. The tube was sealed but unfortunately the lipstick had been pressed against the lid during the manufacturing process presumably and the lip was a bit messy and it didn't have the sharp finish a new lipstick should. A minor complaint really though... I'd say it offers a very pillar box red. Very bright and feels super moisturising and rich on. I really liked it though can't comment on how well it will least as I'm not brave enough to wear it for anything length of time or in public lol. It will be getting some exhibitioning at Halloween though hopefully.

Sheer Sparkle was the other one I ordered. I thought it looked pretty in the packaging and it gives a sparkly sheen to the lips. I didn't noticed the colour so much until I was removing it and could see it on the cotton pad - it gives a pale nudey pink colour with the glitter. The glitter is very noticeable (difficult to pick up on my camera) and it is also quite difficult to remove - like a lot of glitter make up I guess! I think it could be a nice alternative for a gloss on a night out either on it's own or over the top of something else. It's not something I could use every day though and I also found it felt a little gritty on my lips - presumably the glitter...

All in all I think the Scarlett Red is the winner here. The red truly is beautiful and as bright as the website pictures would lead you to believe. One gripe I do have is the website doesn't have much by way of description for the colours (that I could find?)- you have to go on the photo alone which when buying online isn't great. For me, the more information the better!!

I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want...

So ASOS have gone and done it again, released a discount code when I'm broker than a broke thing on a broke day. But then I always am!

It's AWSTYLE15 for 15% off the ASOS collection - so not sure if it includes everything...

So what could I possibly want from ASOS? Or might I be quicker going through what I don't want? Probably but I'll go through my main wants for now ;)

First off I want this dress featured in INSTYLE's AW 2010 Preview I love, love, love the look of this dress but it's hard to tell how perfect it will be without seeing it on a model/catwalk. I hope it isn't too short but even so I think it would be gorgeous with some wintery black tights and heels or flats. I love it! There's something a bit opulent about it (all the textures and general OTTness)and I can't wait for it to go on the ASOS website (and see how much it is). According to ASOS it will be online in the next few weeks.



I've long lusted after a pair of designer sunglasses. My favourite sunglasses thus far are Vivienne Westwood and Roberto Cavalli. I love big glasses and found these VW ones on ASOS. I adore both of these but probably would be inclined to go for the cheaper ones (well I am broke!!)...

Then there's my long luster after Paperself Lashes. I love them a lot but realistically I don't think a) I could use them without covering both them and myself in glue and b) I'm not convinced they'd suit my eyes. They are however, SO pretty.

[sigh] So those are the main things I think. There is a lot more I could post about but I'll only make myself grumpy thinking about how I can't afford them! What are you lusting after or treating yourself to? Or are you on a shopping ban too?

Ladybird Ladybug

I've attempted the full nail ladybird before. The results weren't pretty. I think it's possibly my nails but something about them looked off - like maybe they were too big and would look better on smaller nails?

Anyway my Barry M "Spring Green" is on its last legs and I thought I'd have a little fun with it this morning. What could I use a green as a base for? Ladybirds on grass of course!!


This was a totally flung together little experiment but I've listed below some of the basics and of course you can tweak it to your own preferences. Also apologies about the weird flash effect...

So what you'll need

1. Clear base coat/top coat

2. Green polish

3. Red polish (the bolder the better I think !)

4. Black polish

5. Toothpick

Apply the base coat to your filed and prepped nails, allowing to dry fully before apply a coat or two of green polish (here Barry M Spring Green which I think work perfectly), allowing each coat to dry fully! When dry using a red nail polish and brush apply rounded blobs of polish on top of the green trying to keep the edges as neat as possible. Again allow to dry fully. The next part is pretty tricky and i find using a toothpick works best for me but you can use a fine nail art brush, kirby hair grip or something small which you find easiest to work with. Apply small dots of black for the lady bird spots. You can also add a line of black at the front of the lady bird which I did on the thumbnails. Allow these to dry fully before applying a clear top coat to seal your design.

My top tip would be to make sure the red is a nice solid primary coloured vibrant red and to make sure the red and black polishes are nice and fluid. M black was a little gloopy which made things more difficult than they should have been...

And there you have it! A fun summery take on the nail art ladybird/ladybug :) You can alter this by using a glitter polishes, adding some white to the ladybirds for eyes or have a go with bees or something on the grass.
